Okay, so I wasn’t actually dead. Just busy.

First of all, I have been doing a ton of freelance work. Most of it hasn’t been published yet, so I can’t post it here until that happens. I do, however, have a few new pieces to show: Great Old One, Stryxis, Unravel, and Zodiac Mage.

I have been doing a lot of work for Fantasy Flight Games lately, on their Rogue Trader titles, the Call of Cthulhu LCG, and I just wrapped up some more card art for the Warhammer: Invasion LCG. I also finished work on the first book for Emerald City Expeditions’ Oz: Dark and Terrible, that will be out just in time for GenCon this year.

Speaking of conventions, I just got back from Origins Game Fair last week. Overall, it was a fun show. It was much smaller than I expected - being used to mega-conventions like Gen Con and Dragon*Con. I met a bunch of great artists and got to hang out with friends from past events. I am thinking of coming back next year

My convention schedule for the rest of the year is pretty short: I will be at Gen Con Indy, August 5th-8th, and Dragon*Con, September 3rd-6th, here in Atlanta (its a DEFINITE this year - I won’t miss that show again!). I may also pick up a few smaller cons, but we shall see. Stay Tuned!!

…I will NOT be in the Dragon*Con Art Show this year. As much as I am disappointed, and have to eat my earlier words that “I would not miss this show for the world”, I will indeed have to miss out this year. Much to my chagrin, I turned in my application during the second jury round, but well before the final deadline, and was promptly placed on a waiting list. No spaces became available, and thus, I am screwed. It is a lesson learned the hard way for me, and I will be submitting the very same day the application process opens up next year.

I will still be attending Dragon*Con this year, since I live in Atlanta, and its a hell of a lot of fun! One may be able to locate me distracting my fellow artists at their tables, or waiting in line for Charlaine Harris to sign the entirety of my Sookie Stackhouse book collection. Good times.

There’s probably a few of you out there who have bought my work in the past at Dragon*Con and may (hopefully) be looking to make another purchase from me. Though my lack of presence in the Art Show may prove inconvenient, I always have prints and originals available through my website. If there’s anything you may be interested in that’s not listed as “SOLD” in the image description, please email me if you would like to obtain it!

So GenCon Indy was an absolute BLAST! So much so, that I have prepaid my for my table in next year’s show!

Wow, there’s so much to tell about my convention experience. I will try to keep it short, though.

First of all, I had some very unique and talented artists, who also happen to be really awesome people, as neighbors in the show. Teresa Mather, Micheal and Paul Bielaczyc, Brent Woodside, Sarah Frary, and Lydia and Catherine Burris.

I talked to several art directors over the course of the weekend, from White Wolf, Fantasy Flight Games, Tor Books, and Third Eye Games. Hopefully this will result in more work for me, and ultimately, more visual goodness for you, my readers

I won the ‘Best Black and White’ Award for Liberation! I was struck stupid at the award ceremony when they called my name. I haven’t won an art show award since grade school; I certainly did not expect it now. Needless to say, I am honored. Judges, if you should be reading this, thank you again!

I attended a watercolor workshop with Artist Guest of Honor, Omar Rayyan, which was amazing. I am a fan for life. Also, I have a lot to learn about watercolor.

Scored an invite to a White Wolf - sponsored party Saturday evening. It defied my expectations of an “industry event”, but in a good way. I think the air conditioning in the club actually broke over the course of the party, and after too many uncomfortable brushes with sweaty behinds, it was time to go. Tons of fun, though!

I was interviewed for the Ninja Mountain Podcast! I have to admit, I was not a fan of podcasts at all until I started listening to Ninja Mountain. Its full of art/industry - related information, wonderful artists, and general hilarity, and its something all artists of all experience levels can learn volumes from. HIGHLY recommended If you’re interested in hearing my interview, including all my nervous laughter, it comes on about an hour and a half into the podcast.

That’s pretty much it for my convention highlights. It made me very sad to pack up and go home after such a great weekend, but there was work and overdue library books awaiting my return.

On a side note, repeat visitors may notice some changes to my galleries. I did some pruning and reorganizing around the site - I felt that some categories were redundant, and there were some pieces that just didn’t belong on the site.

And I do apologize for the tardiness of this post

I swear I’m not dead!! There is so much to tell about what I’ve been up to over the past few months!

First of all, I have been working on interiors for the Nightbane Survival Guide, by Palladium Books. I am thrilled to finally illustrate a Nightbane book; I have been in love with the series ever since I got my hands on the core rule book five or six years ago. It’s a very dark, horror-inspired game with some very unconventional character concepts. My mind can go to some very twisted places, and this game lets me use that to the fullest extent. Seriously, it’s like candy for my imagination.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive so far, and I’m glad; I’ve had more fun with this than should be legal. The book is out May 15th.

Also, I will be attending Palladium’s Open House event May 1st - 3rd at their headquarters in Michigan. It will be such a fun-tastic weekend! I hope to squeeze in a little gaming, too. I haven’t played any RPGs in years (I’m not proud of this, since I do gaming art primarily). It will be fun to re-learn the games and have adventures with the people who make them. I will, of course, be bringing prints and originals of my work INCLUDING most of the work I did for the Dead Reign Zombie RPG. So come by my table to say Hi if you will be there. I have also been advised to bring all of my Nightbane originals, too. Since the book won’t be out until after the Open House, you can get a sneak-peek at what’s in store if you ask nicely!

Illustrations and concept work are nearing completion for Oz: Dark and Terrible, by Emerald City Expeditions. This is a far cry from anything L. Frank Baum wrote, and that’s a very good thing! I can’t go into too many details, but think Wizard of Oz high fantasy meets Steampunk meets horror. Again - candy. It has certainly been a great deal of fun to help bring this world to life, and I look forward to doing more in the future!

Conventions!
I don’t get too many opportunities to travel to the major cons around the US, so this list is regrettably short.

- Palladium Open House – as mentioned above. May 1st - 3rd, 2009

- Gen Con Indy - August 13th - 16th, 2009. Once again, you guys will have to put up with me and my own special brand of weird at Gen Con Indy this year. As always, I will have lots of prints and originals for sale, and I’ve been working on a few other surprises that might make it to the show with me as well!

- Dragon Con - September 4th - 7th (Labor Day weekend) 2009. I wouldn’t miss this convention for the world! Prints and originals for sale. I keep tossing around the idea that I might get a table one year, but I really like just wandering around this con. There’s too much to see and do to sit it all out in the Artist’s Bazaar.

- Anime Weekend Atlanta - TENTATIVE. I haven’t decided whether or not I want to do this con yet.

That’s it for now. And if you are a part of any of these sites, network with me!!

I have just uploaded a new painting. It doesn’t have a title. It was completed in a watercolor workshop at Gaijin Studios with the amazingly talented Brian Stelfreeze.
The techniques he taught us in the workshop were surprisingly simple, and I ended up being very angry with myself at the end of the first session for going about it the hard way for far too many years. The painting looks different from any of my previous work for this reason; also Brian literally took away my smaller brushes. I managed to finish the painting with no brushes smaller than a #5 round. I am incredibly happy with how it turned out, and am thoroughly inspired to do more like this! Go have a look at it here.
